MY Mandate
First and foremost, when elected I will avail myself to you the electorate of Ward 9 and respond to any and all concerns brought to my attention in a timely fashion.
curb capital expenditures
I will work at stopping the hemorrhaging of Capital Expenditures on non-essential projects. We currently have 3 indoor pools and 5 outdoor pools. At a time when the basic cost of living is sky rocketing we certainly don’t need the additional tax burden to cover the cost of a 240 million dollar Aquatic Centre.
implement a
spending cap
I find it disturbing that a group of ten Councillors and a Mayor have the authority to pass an expenditure of that magnitude without the input of the taxpayer. I would work on having a spending cap on the amount of money City Council could authorize on non-essential projects before the expenditure would need to be voted on through a plebiscite.
get real about real
I struggle with the continued financial and management issues being brought forward by REAL. How can this committee end up with a 7 to 9 million dollar bill to Revenue Canada with the expectation that we accept this as a mistake and move on? That does not sit easy with me at all. REAL needs a forensic audit. It’s my understanding that REAL is a Marketing Team; should this be contracted out?
value in-house expertise
I’m at a loss as to why this Council felt that they should hire a new Regina City Police Chief from outside of the current Administration. I know nothing of the new Chief but I do know that there were candidates more than capable and qualified to take the position from in house which would have maintained a knowledge base and allowed for a smooth internal transition of Senior Management.
Another concern is within the Executive level of City Hall itself. When an administration fires or has the entire Senior Executive resign, taxpayers should be concerned. This clearly shows that there is a disconnect within our city leadership.
This Council appears to have made a number of bad decisions over the past four years. Let’s make Council accountable to Section 65 (f) of the Cities Act.
