experience
I was an engineering technologist with Alberta Transportation for eight years doing preliminary and construction surveys on roads in northern Alberta.
My next endeavor was Heavy Duty Mechanics which I did long enough to get my ticket. I came to the realization that I could make as much money doing something else and not have to break my back in the process.
That lead me to the RCMP where my first posting was in Edson, Alberta as a dispatcher for West Central Alberta. Four years later, I went through training as a Regular Member and was posted to Maidstone, La Loche, Pierceland, Regina Intigrated Intelligence Unit, Regina Border Integrity and finally F Division Traffic Services.
While serving in Traffic Services, I was the RCMP representative on the Electronic Ticketing program for the province which was built by our development team in Ottawa in conjunction with Saskatchewan Justice Fine Collections Branch. This was a great team and we built this project from the ground up in two years. This lead to me being the F Division representative on the design and build of the Electronic Collision program in partnership with SGI and the RCMP Development team in Ottawa. Again a great team with a continued success of the program. I continued to manage these programs.
While being in charge of Traffic for Southern Saskatchewan I also managed the Automated Licence Plate Recognition Program, the Watchguard In Car Video program.
I retired from the RCMP in 2015, and was rehired to oversee all of the programs above which I did until May of 2024 only keeping my Prosecutorial position (which I will be walking away from in December of 2024.)
This diversity in life experience with the partnerships in project developments has been a great asset to all that I’ve accomplished in life and will be a great asset in my representation of you, the electorate of Ward 9 at City Hall.
community
During my transfers with the RCMP it became clear to me in a short time that if you wanted to feel welcomed in the community you had to become a part of that community.
In Edson, Marion worked as the Astrological forecaster at YR Radio, the local radio station and I joined the Mason’s.
In Maidstone, Marion worked for the local newspaper and I joined the Delfrari Park committee taking on the task of designing and constructing the local trout pond. I designed a Kidney shaped pond 30 feet deep and convinced a local contractor to dig the hole at cost. It exists to this day.
Pierceland, Marion and I worked on putting on an annual RCMP Christmas party for the community.
Regina, we moved into West Hill and I joined a 5 person committee to determine the best use of land allocated to the construction of schools in West Hill that were not going to be built. The City planners had a vision of ball diamonds and based on what the residents living around the parcel of land asked of me I suggested a park. I insisted on the park and convinced the other committee members to do the same. The city representative called me bully Jeff but I’m proud of what we as a committee accomplished in building West Hill Park.
My understanding of issues impacting our city are informed by my relationships and family.
My three children all vary in political perspective from right to left leaning, which helps me have a balanced viewpoint.
I have an honorary child who is one of the most unique individuals I’ve ever known that has given me insights into uncharted waters by educating me on the LGBTQ+ community and the issues they face in the city and beyond.
My family and friends also include non-profit workers, business owners, postal workers, and tradespeople. All of these people help me to see the wide range of experiences that people have in our city.
